The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) has conferred the honorary title of the March 8th Red-banner Holder on 300 individuals and the honorary title of the March 8th Red-banner Collective on 200 collectives, for their outstanding contributions at their posts in 2019.

Eleven women in particular were honored as the National March 8th Red-banner Pacesetters.

The awards for the March 8 Red-Banner Holders, Pacesetters and Collectives, top national honor to commend exemplary women workers who have made extraordinary achievements, have been organized by the ACWF since 1960.

The awards aimed to inspire women to follow the example of advanced individuals and collectives and make unremitting efforts to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects, start a new stage of socialist modernization, and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The followings are the voices of some of the National March 8th Red-banner Pacesetters awarded this year.

Wang Shihua, honorary director of Kaishan Island Militia Post in Guanyun County, Lianyungang City, East China's Jiangsu Province, was a recipient of the title of the National March 8th Red-banner Pacesetter. She has worked with her husband to guard the islet for more than 30 years.

Excited by her honorary title, Wang said that she will learn from other honored women role models and continue to fulfill her duty and lead the militiamen to guard the island.

Leng Juzhen, Deputy Director of Shuangyashan Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau and first secretary of Xiaonanhe Village, Raohe County, Shuangyashan City, Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, was grateful to receive the recognition.

"I am proud of participating in the frontline battle against poverty and making efforts to secure a decisive victory for a moderately prosperous society in all respects. I will continue to lead rural women to give full play to their advantages suited to local conditions, and guide primary-level officials to improve the lives of local people and contribute to the rural revitalization," said Leng.

"I am a maritime law enforcement officer at the grassroots level. I just fulfill my due responsibilities. My achievements are inseparable from the guidance of leaders and the help of colleagues, as well as the support of all sectors of society for maritime work and the care of the women's federations at all levels for grassroots-level workers," said Chen Wei, director of the hazard prevention center under the Shanghai Pudong Maritime Safety Administration, after winning the honorary title of the National March 8th Red-banner Pacesetter.

"The honor will motivate me to learn from other outstanding women and give full play to women's advantages, and I will continue to lead the team to ensure safe navigation and clean waters," Chen added.

"As a primary-level official, I just did what I was supposed to do," said Liu Guizhen, secretary of the Party branch of Duanjiawan Village and director of the village committee in Yukou Township, Daixian County, Xinzhou City, North China's Shanxi Province, after she was awarded the title of the National March 8th Red-banner Pacesetter.

Duanjiawan is a small mountain village with poor road infrastructure and medical care. Young people migrated to other areas for work, and the elderly people were left behind in the village. Liu has served as a rural doctor in Duanjiawan since 1978 and later worked as a substitute teacher, Party secretary and women's congress director.

Liu is always on call to make home visits to the villagers and treat them for free. She also leads local people to plant trees to help them increase their income. Duanjiawan shook off poverty three years ago.

"The honor belongs to everyone," Liu said, adding that she will, as always, protect the health of the villagers and work with the locals towards a well-off life.

Zhi Yueying, a rural teacher in Zaoxia Town, Fengxin County, Yichun City, East China's Jiangxi Province, has been committed to rural education for 40 years and was recently honored with a national award for her outstanding work in poverty alleviation.

"I only do what I should do at the post. Rural education and teachers have received unprecedented attention. I am proud of being a teacher at grassroots level," said Zhi.

Liang Jianying, deputy general-manager and chief engineer of CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co, was grateful for receiving the award.

"I feel lucky to live in the era of high-speed rail. The rapid development of the country's high-speed rail industry has given us a big opportunity. I will take the honor as a new starting point, continue to make technological breakthroughs with my team,  strive to make more Chinese trains shine on the global stage and build China a country with strong transportation network," Liang said.

"I am very proud to receive the award. It is the recognition and encouragement to me," said Chen Huili, director of heritage conservation center of Dazu Rock Carving Research Institute in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

"The honor not only belongs to me, but also to all of us who work on protecting cultural relics. I will continue to preserve and inherit China's cultural heritage," she added.

Zhu Ting, captain of China's women's volleyball team, who inherits the spirit of the team, He Yuanzhi, a researcher of the Academy of Military Sciences, who filled many gaps in national defense communications, and Zhuoga and Yangzong, two farmers of Yumai Village, Longzi County, Shannan City, Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, who unwaveringly guard their homeland, were among the recipients of the honorary title of pacesetters.
